John 15:5
“I am the vine; you are the branches.  If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

Reflection
Jesus explains very clearly that when he talks about the vine he is referring to himself.  Jesus also makes it just as clear that when he refers to the branches that he is talking about his disciples, those who follow him.

Jesus then says that we must remain in him if we want to bear spiritual fruit which is to produce more disciples.  We must remain in Jesus because we have no power on our own.  As we are connected to the vine the power of Jesus flows into us.  We cannot bear fruit (make disciples) if we do not possess the power of Jesus.  Apart from Jesus we are lifeless and powerless.

Have you ever felt disconnected from Jesus?
What was that experience like?  Spend some time reflecting on that.
