Supervision

Luke 10:1-12, 16-20
When Jesus made disciples he didn’t just get a verbal commitment from them to follow him and then move on to the next person.  Jesus spent time with the ones whom he was discipling.  The inner twelve of Jesus’ disciples is a good example of that.  Jesus spent three years teaching them in his ways so that they would be ready to disciple others after his death and resurrection.

So Jesus offered the disciples supervision.  He taught them and supervised them in his ways.  Then when it was time for them to go out and do ministry in his name, he gave them instructions and sent them out to do ministry, and when they were done he met with them and they talked about their experiences.  Jesus used this debriefing to continue to disciple and teach them.

This week we are going to be considering that if we want to model our disciple making after the way of Jesus, we need to offer those we are mentoring in the faith the process of supervision.  We should oversee and supervise those who we are discipling.
