Acts 2:44-45

All the believers were together and had everything in common.  Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.

Reflection

These two passages from the book of the Acts of the Apostles reflect a deep sense of community that had developed among the believers.  It takes community to be able to possess everything in common.  It takes community to sell your property and give the proceeds to help anyone who might have need.  The early church knew what it meant to stand with one another.

Does the church today possess that kind of deep bonding community?  In order for that to happen people must be willing to share and live life together.  When people go through adversity together then that will tend to build community.  When people share a great truth such as their faith in Jesus Christ that is what tends to build community.  When the church today moves beyond surface relationships then the church of today will experience a deep bonding community for which people will sacrifice much in order to be a part of that experience.

How have you experienced deep community in your life?  Was it through the church or another group?
