Isaiah 6:6-7
Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.”

Reflection
To return to the passage from Isaiah that we started Monday, recall that Isaiah knew that he did not belong in God’s presence.  He said that he had unclean lips.  So what does God do?  God demonstrates that He is powerful enough to fix Isaiah’s unclean lips.  God goes to the very heart of Isaiah’s problem – Isaiah has unclean lips and God fixes Isaiah’s unclean lips.  By addressing Isaiah’s problem directly, Isaiah’s guilt is removed and his sins atoned for (meaning make amends for or doing something right to make up for the wrong).

What we learn from this passage is that Isaiah couldn’t address his “unclean lips” himself – it took action from God.

Are there things in your life that only God can atone for?  (Be humble and poor in spirit, knowing that attitude is needed as the first step in allowing God to be part of the solution.)
