John 15:13
“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.”

Reflection
Jesus was constantly challenging us with very difficult realities for our lives.  How could he say that the greatest love a person could give was to lay his/her life down for others?  Jesus could say this because he lived it.  Jesus gave his life for us all.  Jesus’ life was a demonstration of love and he imparted that love to each of us.

Again, we are brought back to the reality that if we want people to know the love of Jesus then we must be a reflection of that love.  If we want people to know Jesus then we must be Jesus for them.  No, we can never truly become Jesus but we can allow the love of Jesus to live in us and through us.  So, much of making disciples is about loving others in the same way that Jesus has loved us.
We might never be put in a position when we actually give our life for another person but we can love others sacrificially.  Whenever we put ourselves aside to show love to another person we are loving them sacrificially.

Can you think of a time when you engaged yourself in a selfless act of love?  Did you consciously do that so that the love of Jesus would become real to that person?  Think about these questions.
