Romans 10:13-14

For, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in?  And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard?  And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?

Reflection

Earlier in this passage from  Romans 10, Paul is discussing the concept of righteousness.  Paul tells us that he desires for all of the Israelites to be saved.  The problem is that some believe that their righteousness comes from themselves.  But the real truth is that true righteousness comes from God and we need to submit to that righteousness, no other will do.  So, “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord [and His righteousness] will be saved.”

Here is the problem.  Unless people (in general) know of God’s righteousness and His plan for salvation, how can they be saved if they are trusting in themselves?  First they have to believe in God and His plan.  But to believe, someone needs to tell them.  Who can tell them?  Someone that is sent to preach to them.

Are there people in your sphere of influence (your work, your school, your neighborhood, your family) that aren’t saved because they don’t believe, because they have not heard, because no one has “preached” to them?
