Genesis 12:1-3

The LORD had said to Abram, “Leave your country, your people and your father’s household and go to the land I will show you.  “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.  I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”

Reflection

God first called His chosen people through one man and his family.  The man was Abram (whose name would change to Abraham).  God’s chosen people at the time were the Israelites – one nation.  However, through Abraham’s “seed” (which is Jesus), God’s chosen people would become all followers of Jesus.

God’s first command to Abraham was to “go”.  As a result of Abraham’s faithfulness, he would be blessed.  But here is the key for today’s reading, he would be blessed SO THAT he and his nation would become a blessing to other nations. – “all peoples on earth.”

Think about this today:  Are you blessed?  How?  And are you using how God has blessed you to bless others?
