Matthew 12:11-12
He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out?  How much more valuable is a man than a sheep!  Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”

Reflection
After the Pharisees intimated that following the law was more important than ministering to a person’s need Jesus lifted up a very appropriate example.  He cited the illustration that every one of them would rescue a sheep in danger on the Sabbath.  Jesus then went on to say that a person was far more important than an animal.  Jesus is saying that we shouldn’t allow other things to become more important than meeting the needs of people.

That fits when we are talking about meeting the spiritual needs of people through salvation in Jesus Christ.  How many times do we allow other things to get in the way of being involved in offering Jesus’ love and grace to others?  Jesus would never do that because nothing is more important than people and offering the way to meet their spiritual need.

How can we elevate the cause of Christ for others to our most important priority?
