Matthew 12:9-10
Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there.  Looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, they asked him,” Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”

Reflection
The Pharisees were trying to trap Jesus so that they could accuse him of not following the law by baiting him to break the law by healing the man with the withered hand.  However, the Pharisees didn’t realize that by even posing the situation that they were making a law more important than people.  In other words, the Pharisees were saying that they were willing to let the needs of people go in order to be able to say that they had kept the law.

Let’s consider this for a moment:  Do we really think that God meant for the laws that he gave us for our own good to be more important than the people that they were designed to serve and protect?  I believe that Jesus would never obey a law if the result of obeying that law was detrimental to a person.

Contemplate this question: When we do not fulfill Jesus’ Great Commission to make disciples aren’t we overlooking the spiritual needs of people in order to do whatever we choose to do rather than being obedient to Christ’s command?  What is it in your life that is more important than taking the good news of Jesus to others?
