Deuteronomy 8:12-15
Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down, and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied, then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

Reflection
Plenty is the enemy of a strong relationship with God.  When we have nothing it is easy to depend on God because we have no other choice.  When we have plenty it is easy to forget God and begin to think that what we have is a result of what we have done.  We must always remind ourselves of this truth:  Everything we have, no matter how little or how large, comes from the hands of the Lord.

If we dare to become proud of what we have and who we are then from that point on there is no room for God because we are too full of ourselves.  We need humility that leads us to our knees in thanksgiving for the blessings of God.

Ask yourself this:  What has won out in your life, humility or pride?  The level of thankfulness in your heart will give you your answer.
