Deuteronomy 8:17
You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.”

Reflection
This verse from Deuteronomy represents one of the most dangerous things that can happen in our lives.  Thinking that what we have is a result of our own efforts.  Read these words from Psalm 24:1-6

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it; for he founded it upon the seas and established it upon the waters.  Who may ascend the hill of the Lord?  Who may stand in his holy place?  He who has clean hands and a pure heart, who does not lift up his soul to an idol or swear by what is false.  He will receive blessing from the Lord and vindication from God his Savior.  Such is the generation of those who seek him, who seek your face, O God of Jacob.

The proper attitude before God is to always keep our heart humble and thankful before the Lord.  When we give into pride and claim credit for whatever we have accomplished then we have placed ourselves before the Lord and we are idolizing ourselves.  When we are humble before the Lord that is when we can truly be blessed.
