Genesis 41:48
Joseph collected all the food produced in those seven years of abundance in Egypt and stored it in the cities.  In each city he put the food grown in the fields surrounding it.

Reflection
When we are in a period of good times it is the time to prepare for those times when it won’t be so good.  That’s what Joseph did.  Joseph knew that there would be a specific period of abundance.  There was more than enough.  Instead of just using all that was available Joseph made sure that a certain amount of the grain being produced was put aside for when things were not so good.  The principle that Joseph was living out is what we have often referred to as “saving for a rainy day.”  We never know when we might have an unexpected need and so it is a good idea to save for those moments when we might not have as much as we do at the present time.

Do you make it a regular practice to put aside some money for when times are bad?  Many people think they don’t have enough money to do this.  Do you know how much money you could save over time just by saving the spare change that you get from time to time?  You would be surprised how quickly it adds up.

Take a moment and pray about beginning a savings plan no matter how little you are putting aside.
