Ephesians 4:11-13
It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

Reflection

Each of us as Christians are called to fulfill a ministry role within the life of the church.  What are those ministry roles?  The are apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers.  We are called to fulfill these roles so that the church can be built up in unity, faith and the knowledge of the Son of God.  This will then lead us to become mature growing in the fullness of Christ.

It seems that the Apostle Paul is saying that everything we do in our ministry rules in the life of the church should serve to bring us all together in Christ and closer to Christ.  The purpose of the church is not events or activities or anything else.  The purpose of the church is to bring about our destiny of being one in Christ and one with Christ.  When that happens all that Jesus desires for us will become a reality.
