Fivefold Ministry:  Why?

Ephesians 4:7, 11-13
But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it…  It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

This passage is one of the most important biblical references regarding how the ministry of the church should function and be lived out.  We have all been given a ministry role (apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor & teacher) and we are expected to live out that ministry role in our lives and in the ministry of the church.

Why is it important that every believer discover and live out their ministry role?  It is important because it is the only way the church can function as a whole and fulfill the mission that Christ has given it.  It is also the way the church is built up for works of service and it is the way that the body of Christ can be unified and grow in maturity so that we can become more and more like Christ.

As all believers function in their ministry role then the church can become what Jesus intended it to be.  That will be the focus of this week’s devotions.
