John 11:33-35
When Jesus saw her weeping and saw the other people wailing with her, a deep anger welled up within him, and he was deeply troubled.  “Where have you put him?” he asked them.  They told him, “Lord, come and see.”  Then Jesus wept.

Reflection

It is easy to think about the God of the universe being detached, maybe even stoic with all of the stuff that happens that affects us greatly each day.

Look what happens in this passage.  Jesus is friends with Mary and Martha and their brother Lazarus who has recently died.  When Jesus arrives at the town where His friends live and Jesus sees what is happening surrounding the death of Lazarus, look at His response.  He sees people weeping and wailing.  Jesus response is this:  He is deeply angered; He is deeply troubled; and He wept.  Don’t miss that.  We don’t need to know why He is angered, troubled or is weeping.  The point is that Jesus had the same emotions that we have.

When you are sad, weeping or wailing today, know that Jesus, God in the flesh has been right there in His life.  Does that help you cope knowing that God who is with us has experienced the same trials as we do?
