Matthew 5:14-16 (NLT)
“You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden.  No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Reflection

One of the things Jesus taught those that followed Him was to let their light shine.  Jesus wanted to have an impact on the lives of those that followed Him.  He wanted to have more and more people follow Him as He worked to create God’s Kingdom on earth with Jesus as the King.  Don’t put your light “under a basket.”  Put your light (your good deeds) for all to see.

This passage implies that we should have compassion on others as Jesus has compassion on us.  As we minister to others, people will praise God.  What we do should bring glory to God, not to ourselves.

Think about how you have felt God with you, felt His compassion in the good times and the bad.  How can you show that same compassion to others and help them to feel God with them through your words and actions?
