Ephesians 5:12-14
For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret.  But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for it is light that makes everything visible.  This is why it is said:  “Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

Reflection

Paul reminds us that shameful things can be exposed by the light of the Lord.  The light makes everything visible.  As it was said in yesterday’s reflection when the darkness of sin is made visible then it can then be honestly and thoroughly dealt with.

When a person becomes a part of a 12 step addiction program it is a requirement for the person to admit their addiction (confess their sin).  When the person admits their problem it exposes it to light and makes it possible to defeat.  When the problem is kept secret it is almost impossible to defeat.

Paul says that it is the light of Christ that shines on us that will expose the deadness of our sin and give us the opportunity to walk away from the deeds of darkness.

Have you ever had to expose and admit a sin before it could be defeated?

Have you ever attempted to keep a sin secret and therefore continued to give into the temptation?
