Matthew 13:7,22
“Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants.”

(22) “The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful.”

Reflection
The seed that fell among the thorns and was choked out represents a person who does not remain focused on the treasure of the gospel.  They are distracted by the worries and concerns of this life.  Also, they are distracted by the good things that this life can give them.  They make these things the center of their lives instead of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

When we are discipling someone into a faith in Jesus Christ we must be sure to communicate that Jesus then becomes our focus.  If the potential disciple isn’t ready or willing to make Jesus their everything then they will be distracted from his direction in life.  They will become focused on something else and Jesus will move to the periphery of their lives.  When it comes to faith in Jesus this will never work.  We must be single-minded and have one focus.  Our single-mindedness and our focus must be Jesus.

How can we share with people whom we are discipling that they must remain focused on Jesus?  Take some time to think about this issue.

Are we single-minded and do we have one focus in life?  How can we keep our single-mindedness and our focus on Jesus?
