Luke 10:1-4
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.  He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few.  Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.  Go!  I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.  Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.”

Reflection
Jesus told his disciples when he sent them out that a great harvest was ready.  What did he mean?  I believe that he was saying that if we are discerning we can find many people who are ready to receive his good news.  We have to be willing to look for them and then we have to be willing to invest time in them and disciple them into the way of Jesus.

However, even though Jesus said there were plenty of people who could be found to receive the gospel he also says that there is a shortage of workers who are willing to spend the time to help disciple people.  I believe that is true today as well.  There is a shortage of people willing to offer the love and grace of Jesus to others.  What about us?  Are we willing to invest in others for the sake of them finding the treasure of the kingdom?

Spend some time today meditating on who it is that the Holy Spirit may be calling you to disciple into the way of Jesus.
