The Tactics of the Enemy

And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.  It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.
- 2 Corinthians 11:14-15

There are lots of things that the enemy can use to distract us from our relationship with Jesus Christ. We are deceived by the great liar when we are tricked by things that seem good. That by examination they are not in and of themselves evil, but they can be used by the enemy to make us think that good is bad and bad good. These things steal our focus from God and scatter us into a million places. They divide families and cause us to ignore the things that God is blessing us with all the time. Many representations of the devil are of a man with red suit, horns, and a pitchfork. Of course, this is not how evil presents itself. None of us would fall for that. For that same reason that the agents of evil are not drunks and bums. No one would believe a word they said. The enemy knows better than that. Evil knows we are not that gullible. The truth is that evil looks all the more ordinary. Evil presents itself as something good or harmless and always provides us with some little reward for following along. It always seems on the up and up. Like so many other things evil appears cunningly as something too good to be true or even something that seems like it could not hurt anyone or anything. Evil seems harmless. But just like many things it eats away at us from the inside causing both our relationship with God and our trust in Him to erode.
