Matthew 2:9-12
After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.  When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.  On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him.  Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.  And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their country by another route.

Reflection
The pagan magi went and worshiped the true Son of God.  They discovered what Herod, as part of the chosen people, would never find.  The ones who seemed to be the most unlikely were the ones who had found God’s message of love and grace in Jesus.  Herod, who thought he was accepted by God due to his heritage, was in reality far from God.  God chose to work through those who seemed to be the most unlikely.

Should we be surprised when God works through someone who doesn’t seem to be a likely candidate?
