Following Jesus: Whenever
“As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he
saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for
they were fishermen. ‘Come follow me,’ Jesus said, ‘and I will make you fishers of men.’ At once they left their nets and followed him.”
The call to follow Jesus is now. Jesus doesn’t want a delay in our decision to follow him. When Peter and Andrew were called to follow Jesus their response was immediate. The scripture says “at once” they stopped what they were doing and they followed Jesus. That means they didn’t ask for a “think it over period” they just walked away from everything that was familiar to them and began a new life following this itinerant preacher whose name was Jesus.
This week we will learn that Jesus wants each of us to be equally decisive in our decision to follow Jesus.
Following Jesus is not about tomorrow or next week or next year. It is about right now. It is about today.
