Weekly Theme December 8 through 14

Christmas Calls Us

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.  For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love  he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.”
-Ephesians 1:3-6

Last week began the season of Advent. Advent is the period of four Sundays and weeks before Christmas (or sometimes from the 1st December to Christmas Day!). Advent means 'Coming' in Latin. This is the coming of Jesus into the world. Christians use the four Sundays and weeks of Advent to prepare and remember the real meaning of Christmas.
There are three meanings of 'coming' that Christians describe in Advent. The first coming, and most thought of, happened about 2000 years ago when Jesus came into the world as a baby to live as a man and die for us. The second coming can happen in the present as Jesus wants to come into our lives now. And the third will happen in the future when Jesus comes back to the world as King and Judge, not as a baby.
